This is the deal: I went to the IV class today and it felt wooooooonderful.

Reviewing the circulatory system was great! I had forgotten that the left ventricle is the most vital chamber, squeezing the hardest to push all that rich red blood out to the tips of fingers and toes. And, how serious any ailments that effect it can be. Of course, emotional upset and loneliness aren't as life threatening as more severe stress or sclerotic diseases, regardless of how uncomfortable a broken heart feels to it's owner. Warm hands and feet are enough to prove that the situation is temporary.

We reviewed factors that influence the size and conditions of veins, too. Things like diagnosis, body weight, hx of multiple i.v. starts and thrombophlebitis, etc, all influence how well the patient is served by i.v. therapy.

I rode up to Avon with 2 other nurses, and we had a really nice talk, both going up and coming home. No car sickness, or boredom either.... all in all a great way to spend a day getting paid to learn.

I get to go back tomorrow and do it again, and in the afternoon we take a test and get to play with the pumps and pretend to start iv's!! YAY!!!!
